For decades, Swedish leaders have systematically and purposefully chosen to dismantle and disarm not only the Swedish military - but also civil defense and crisis preparedness in general. Stocks and reserves have been emptied, discarded and demolished. Nor has there been any ambition to keep the population equipped, strong and prepared in the event of crisis and war - rather the opposite has been sought. When crisis and times of unrest (real or created) in Europe have subsequently become reality, it has been a simple matter for the power establishment to persuade the majority of citizens that Sweden stands no chance in the event of conflict. The solution sold is that the big, strong USA and NATO will come and "protect" us. Peace activists' main criticism of Sweden's increasingly close ties to the US is that it represents a fundamental departure from traditional Swedish non-alignment.
The popularly unsupported engagement with the US and NATO is widely claimed to strengthen Swedish security, while many point out that it has in fact had the exact opposite effect.
It is hardly far-fetched that the alleged threat of war is linked to the fact that Swedish authorities have decided to allow foreign soldiers and weapons systems onto Swedish soil. At present, there is not even a guarantee that American nuclear weapons are not already deployed in Sweden. In short, the country's fate is now in the hands of others (read: the US) when it comes to existential decisions of fundamental importance to our future.

Infantile explanatory models

Instead of bluntly urging people to "prepare for war", perhaps the Chief of Staff, the Minister of Defense, the Prime Minister and others could take the time to answer the question why? Why do our leaders suddenly find it uninteresting to engage in any kind of dialogue, cooperation and peace in the region? Are they asking the Swedish people to settle for the same infantile model of explanation used so many times before in history, such as in connection with the American-orchestrated attacks on Iraq, Libya and Syria - where Vladimir Putin, after Saddam Hussein, Moammar Ghaddaffi and Bashar Al-Assad, is now described as the next irrational Disney villain to destroy? For which interests are we supposed to be ready to sacrifice our lives? The question is particularly relevant to ask because it is not in the interest of Swedes or Sweden to go to war, but unfortunately it seems to be in the interest of the Swedish rulers. Det skriver Ben Nimmo och Nina Aleksejeva i en artikel hos tankesmedjans Digital Forensic Research Lab. Det handlar om det öppna brev som Nya Dagbladet publicerade på kultursidan i mars och som riktade sig till USA:s president Donald Trump. Brevet var ett rop på hjälp från Sverige till presidenten. Brevet fick spridning i samband med att hashtaggen #SwedenSOS uppmärksammades internationellt. En dryg månad efter att brevet publicerats i Nya Dagbladet skrev Ben Nimmo och Nina Aleksejeva vid Atlantic Councils Digital Forensic Research Lab, en artikel som anklagade Nya Dagbladet, som beskrevs som en "nationalistisk publikation", och "vit makt-personer" för att peka ut George Soros och för spridandet av "invandringskritisk propaganda", och för att den ungerskfödde judiske valutaspekulanten George Soros pekas ut i brevet. Soros har sedan tidigare donerat pengar till Atlantic Council, som är Ben Nimmos arbetsgivare, genom sin organisation Open Society Foundations. Soros har även hyllats av tankesmedjan i en artikel med rubriken "Thank You, George!", som handlar om Soros ekonomiska stöd till Ukraina. Andra som nämns i artikeln är amerikanskan Lana Lokteff, som driver Red Ice tillsammans med sin svenske make Henrik Palmgren. Lokteff fick stor uppmärksamhet när hon lade upp en video på Twitter där hon beskrev skadan som invandringen orsakat svenskarna. Ben Nimmo är Senior Fellow for Information Defense vid Atlantic Councils Digital Forensic Research Lab. Nina Aleksejeva har tidigare jobbat med "spec-ops" (special operations) vid Infogram. Digital Forensic Research Lab beskriver sig som "digitala Sherlocks" och utgör en del av Natos propagandacentrum Stratcom, som Sverige anslöt sig till nyligen, vilka bland annat ägnar sig åt psykologisk krigföring, även känt som psyops. Atlantic Council är samtidigt en inofficiell tankesmedja åt Nato och samlar några av världens främsta globalister. I tankesmedjans styrelse sitter bland andra Henry Kissinger, Condoleezza Rice, Madeleine Albright, Wesley Clark och Victoria Nuland. I Atlantic Councils International Advisory Board (som tankesmedjan beskriver som en unikt inflytelserik grupp av globala företagsledare och politiska ledare) sitter bland andra svenskarna Carl Bildt, Jacob Wallenberg och Håkan Buskhe (vd, Saab). Andra medlemmar är: James Clapper (f.d. amerikansk underrättelsechef), Chuck Hagel (f.d. amerikansk försvarsminister), Marillyn Hewson (vd, vapenföretaget Lockheed Martin), Muhtar Kent (vd, The Coca-Cola Company), Rupert Murdoch (mediemogul och ordförande för 21st Century Fox och News Corp), Paul Polman (vd, livsmedelskonglomeratet Unilever), George Robertson (f.d. Natochef), Stephen Schwarzman (vd, finansbolaget Blackstone), Larry Summers (f.d. amerikansk finansminister), John Watson (vd, oljebolaget Chevron) och Robert Zoellick (f.d. chef för Världsbanken, numera verksam inom Goldman Sachs). Bland de som donerat mellan 250 000 och 1 000 000 dollar (motsvarande mellan 2,1 miljoner till 8,4 miljoner kronor) till Atlantic Council finns exempelvis Sveriges utrikesdepartement, som låtit Atlantic Council ta del av de svenska skattebetalarnas pengar. Samma belopp kom från det svenska vapenföretaget Saabs nordamerikanska avdelning Saab North America samt Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation.
